Nowadays it’s not just conscious tree-huggers or charity workers that are getting on the trend that is giving back and being ‘ethical’.
More and more people, including several well known celebrities are hopping on the bandwagon.
Most recently, Emma Watson, who has starred in Harry Potter and numerous other hit-films has collaborated with The People Tree – a designer label that aims to bring ethical trends to a younger audience.
Watson, 20, said: “I designed the collection last year after I’d started university in the US. We took care to design a really wearable collection that truly celebrates the traditional skills of People Tree’s Fairtrade groups around the world.”
People Tree’s stance is clear – “In order to ensure People Tree fashion meets the Fair Trade principles set out by WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation), we work closely with 50 Fair Trade groups in 15 countries. That way, we can bring benefits to people and the planet at as many steps of the production process as possible – growing cotton, weaving, dyeing, embroidery, stitching etc. – helping alleviate poverty in the world’s most marginalised communities.”
It’s great to see another label doing their part.
